Special Event: Phil Hanley

Special Event: Phil Hanley

Phil Hanley began standup comedy by performing at open mics around Vancouver often in between bands at music venues. In these establishments he discovered and honed his unique blending of material and crowd interaction that makes no two of his performances the same. Phil’s style can best be described as unpredictably reflective, delivered with sharp accuracy, and rooted in the grand tradition of joke-telling.

Phil’s performances at The 2008 Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal brought him international acclaim. His jokes were recognized in the Montreal Gazette’s annual "Best jokes of the Festival.” He was also named one of the five comics creating a buzz at the festival by The Hollywood Reporter and rewarded with a featured segment on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He has also appeared at the Halifax Comedy Festival, Global ’s Vancouver International Comedy Fest, XFM satellite radio and his own television special on CTV and Comedy Network. He also won the 2007 "Vancouver’s Funniest comic" competition.

Since arriving in the States, Phil has appeared on “The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson” twice. In 2012, he returned to Just For Laughs for a second time and he was selected for the Comics-To-Watch Showcase as part of the New York Comedy Festival. Phil can currently be seen on your television, in a Microsoft commercial alongside Samantha Bee and Jason Jones of "The Daily Show."
